Peter Petrelli is the main protagonist of the series and an empath whose power allows him to absorb, duplicate, and reproduce the powers of others.
- "Do you ever get the feeling like you were meant to do something extraordinary? "
- ―Peter, Genesis
Hitting a roadblock in his journey, Peter awoke in a hospital in Manhattan with his brother beside him, with no recollection of what happened. Nathan claimed it was a suicide attempt, but Peter thought differently. As Peter began drawing two people on a rooftop in a pad, his mother arrived. She compared his father’s suicide attempt to Peter’s accident, saying that she wanted to help him when he needed it because he was always her “favorite”. Peter was keen on proving his brother's ability to fly (as he previously did) so on the rooftop, Peter threatened to fall off the edge again unless Nathan admitted that he flew when he rescued Peter. Nathan gave in as Peter realized he was also flying. Amazed, Peter hugged his brother. ("Don't Look Back")The next day, Peter recommenced his journey to find a bigger purpose in life, as he quit his job as a hospic nurse and set off to find Chandra Suresh. Peter met up with Simone again at Nathan's campaign event and confessed his love for her. Interrupting them, Nathan arrived to give out a speech to the guests at his campaign event but Peter angrily left as his brother lied about Peter's accident, saying that it was a "suicide attempt". After this, Peter punched Nathan and left. Simone met up with Peter, gave him space under her umbrella and then embraced him with a kiss. ("One Giant Leap") Back at his apartment, Peter woke up in his bed with Simone by his side as Nathan angrily arrived at the door because Mohinder had caused a scene earlier. Thinking that Peter told Mohinder about his powers, Nathan offered him money to keep quiet and disappear, but Peter refused. Peter found Simone leaving nervously, confused about the status of their relationship. Peter went to visit Mohinder at his apartment and explained to him that his power only worked when he was around people who had powers too. Mohinder was unconvinced so Peter took him to Isaac's loft but Isaac did not answer because he was in a precognitive state.
On the subway back home, Peter insisted they could go back later. Suddenly, the train and all the passengers froze, except for Peter. He came across Hiro (who held a sword and spoke with no accent) who said he had a message for him. ("Collision")
He ends up in Ireland with no memories of who he is and was found by Irish thugs. He is tortured and is confused over his abilities. He defends a girl named Caitlin from these mobsters by shooting electricity a man, punched another man with super strength, and disarms the last man with telekinesis. Ricky, the leader of the Irish thugs wants to use Peter and promises to give him a box of his possessions that might help him regain his memories. After helping them, he reads a man's mind to find out that he was going to betray them and take the money for himself. He shoots Peter in the chest, but he heals and uses telekinesis to pin him to the wall, almost killing him. He believes himself to be a monster but Caitlin convinces him that he is a good person at heart. They kiss passionately with Peter not looking into his past, but moving toward the future. Later Elle Bishop shows up wanting to find Peter and kills Ricky when he refuses to reveal where Peter is. Peter paints the future and it shows him in Montreal with Caitlin. He goes there and accidentally takes Caitlin and himself to the future a year from now in New York City. He discovers that the Shanti Virus destroyed 93% of the world's population and that it is continuing to spread. He returns to the present without Caitlin and tries to go back, but couldn't. Then he attacks Adam Monroe with Electrokinesis and then uses Rapid Cellular Regeneration to restore his lost memories thanks to Adam.
Four months ago, after he exploded, he scarred Nathan and takes to the hospital. He leaves undetected and is attacked by Elle. Bob Bishop claims he is able to treat him and take away his powers forever. So Peter agrees to stay and meets Adam as his cell mate. Elle fools around with Peter by continuously shocking him and flirts with him as well, though Peter may have had feelings for her. Adam reveals the truth to Peter about The Company's true intentions and convinces him to escape. They escape but are cornered by Elle and The Haitian. They go their separate ways and then Elle subdues Adam while The Haitian takes down Peter. The Haitian erases Peter's memories and leaves him in the shipping container.
After his memories are restored, he goes with Adam to Victoria Pratt to find out the virus' location and uses Telepathy to get it out of her. When she is about to shoot Peter, Adam steps in and shoots Victoria in the back of the head, killing her. They go to Odessa, Texas and confront Hiro Nakamura. Peter and Hiro fight briefly before Peter electrifies him, knocking him out. Then he uses Telekinesis to open the vault and then Hiro steps in again. He is about to kill Hiro but then Matt Parkman uses his ability to stop Peter but then they have a mind battle until Peter uses telekinesis to push him away. He comes face to face with Nathan and realizes that Adam's intentions aren't so pure. He destroys the virus and stands by his brother's side when he decides to reveal to the world about people with abilities. Then watches helplessly as Nathan is shot twice in the chest.
He chases after the shooter and is trapped inside the body of Jesse Murphy, a level five prisoner by his future self who is the shooter. After Sylar and Elle fight, all the level 5 prisoners escape and Peter goes with Knox to make sure that he doesn't hurt anyone. He is joined by Flint Gordon Jr. and The German to rob a bank but Knox has other plans, revenge against The Company. Knox discovers Peter is in Jesse and threatens his life but then Peter uses Jesse's ability against Knox. Time freezes and Future Peter frees Peter from Jesse's body. Then his future self takes Peter to the future where everyone has abilities and could destroy the world as a result. Future Peter tells Peter that he needs to absorb Sylar's ability to understand how things work to find out how to stop this. Then Future Claire kills Future Peter and then hunts down the Present Peter. Peter goes to Future Mohinder and sees that he has become a monster because of the flawed formula. He reads Future Mohinder's mind to find Sylar and teleports to the Bennet Home in Costa Verde. He ignites flames and enters the home to find little boy running around and that Sylar has changed. He prefers Gabriel Gray now and fights the "hunger" for his son. Future Gabriel refuses to let Peter absorb his ability until he paints the future and tells Peter how to access his ability. After absorbing his ability, Peter and Future Gabriel confront Future Claire, Knox, and Daphne. During the struggle, Future Gabriel's son dies and then he explodes, killing over 200,000 people and Costa Verde. Peter and Future Claire survived due to their healing ability and Future Nathan shows up. He offers Peter to read his mind to prove his intentions are good but Peter is consumed by the "hunger", killing him.
He teleports back to the present in Sylar's cell and uses Superhuman Strength to pin him to the wall. He breaks his neck after finding out that he is his brother and confronts his mother on her secrets. He gives into the "hunger" and tries to open his mother's head, but Sylar uses Telekinesis to knock Peter out. Angela put Peter in a medical induced coma and in a level 5 cell. Later Sylar wakes him up and needs his help to wake their mother up from her coma. He uses Telepathy to enter her mind but sees an image and it is the logo for a company called Pinehearst. Sylar doesn't want Peter to go and they have a battle. Peter uses Flight to fly Sylar to the wall and then Sylar uses Telekinesis to push Peter, then Peter uses Electrokinesis to blast Sylar and then uses Superhuman Strength to knock him unconscious. Peter puts Sylar in the coma and leaves for Pinehearst.
Peter appears at the entrance at Pinehearst and uses Invisibility to enter without detection. He confronts the villains and is shocked to see his father alive and well. He gives his father a hug and then all of his abilities were taken away. His father locked Peter up and then he manages to escape temporary but Arthur uses Peter's abilities against him. He is taken to the lab and Mohinder Suresh is planning to do tests on him for the formula. Then Sylar comes to his rescue and then he escapes. Later he finds Sylar siding with his father and then Sylar tosses Peter out a window but uses Telekinesis to slow down his fall, letting him survive. He is rescued by Claire and taken back home. He tells Nathan that their father is still alive and took his powers away. He and Claire teamed up to escape Knox and Flint and headed to Primatech. They are reunited with Matt, Daphne, Angela, and Nathan to figure out how to stop Arthur Petrelli. Peter and Nathan go to Haiti to find The Haitian and then when the eclipse starts, Nathan loses his power to fly and have to walk the rest of the way. They find The Haitian and helps him take down his brother. Then Nathan decides to side with Arthur and his plan to give people abilities. Peter returns to Primatech with The Haitian and is ordered to shoot Arthur straight through the head in order to kill him for good, since he is too powerful to contain. Finally Peter confronts his father and shoots a bullet but Sylar stops it, questions Arthur and then releases the bullet, killing him. After his father's death, he confronts Nathan over his choices and then knocks him out. He teams up with Knox and Flint to destroy the formula for good. When Flint is about to kill Peter, Nathan knocks him out and fights Peter. Flint sets the place on fire and Peter injects himself with the formula in order to save Nathan from the fire. They have a heated argument and then Nathan flies away, leaving Peter alone.
Two months later, he is a paramedic and gets a call from Claire Bennet saying his brother is rounding up people with abilities. He meets Mohinder Suresh again in the cab and talk about the government rounding up people with abilities. Peter goes to see his mother and instead meets Nathan, arranging a date. Then Nathan meets Peter at his apartment and gives Peter the choice to join him, but he refuses. Then Noah Bennet tasers Peter from behind.
Then, in an airplane hangar, Peter is seen being forced onto a plane, wearing an orange jumpsuit, drugged and wearing a hood over his face while shackled to a hooded Mohinder and another hooded fugitive shackled to him. Later, inside the airplane, Claire wakes him up and removes his hood and drug shunt along with Mohinder's and absorbs Mohinder's ability of Superhuman Strength by touching his hand, then he breaks his restraints and fights off the guards with ease. He accidentally touches Tracy's hands and absorbs her ability, freezing the wall in the plane, breaking and then the plane crashes.
He runs with Claire and then Noah Bennet holds him at gunpoint, but lets him go because he can't bring himself to kill him. Peter meets up with Tracy Strauss and come up with a plan to take down Nathan. The plan goes wrong, then Peter absorbs Nathan's ability of Flight and escapes, leaving Tracy behind. Peter meets with Mohinder Suresh, Matt Parkman, Hiro Nakamura, and Ando Masahashi on taking on the government. Later, Matt, Mohinder, and Peter go to Costa Verde to kidnap Noah Bennet to see what he knows. Peter uses this information to find Noah's storage room and Danko's involvement. Realizing Matt and Mohinder are in danger, he leaves Danko's place and rescues Matt but couldn't rescue Mohinder. He sees Matt paint the future in Isaac's loft and then someone called Rebel warns them that agents are coming and tells them where Daphne was. Peter absorbs Matt's ability of Telepathy to help him control minds in Building 26 and then they infiltrated with ease. Peter uploaded a video sent by Rebel that showed evidence of the government operation. Matt distracted the guards while Peter made his escape with the video. Peter arranged for a trade for the video and was set-up, getting shot in the arm by Danko, falling off the building but Nathan flies in and rescues him. Peter absorbs his ability and flies away from him.
Later, he rescues Angela Petrelli from agents and flies her to the Statue of Liberty. Then they fly to a church to hide and Angela prays to God. Peter makes a plead with God to make him special in order to save the world and needs his help again. Then agents showed up and Noah Bennet lets them go. Angela dreams of their next move and head to Coyote Sands to unearth the truth on what happened here. Nathan and Claire meet up with them, needing to bring this family back together again. Peter repairs his relationship with his brother and helps his mother confront her sister, Alice. After Alice escapes, Nathan tells everyone that he is going to meet with the President to end things but Claire points out that he already is. Everyone is shocked to see this and then Noah says it must be Sylar.
Nathan wants to confront Sylar alone and then Peter follows him. He finds Nathan unconscious in his office and they team up to fight Sylar. When they arrive, they fly towards Sylar and he fights back using Electrokinesis. Then Sylar and Nathan fly off, but Peter was able to get Sylar's ability after stating he couldn't fly after them. They meet with Noah Bennet and then Peter shape shifts into The President and injects Sylar with a powerful tranquilizer. He is there along with the other heroes when they cremate "Sylar's" body, unknown that Nathan is dead and Sylar has been altered to become Nathan Petrelli.
Six weeks later, Peter has returned to his job as a paramedic. Using the enhanced strength reflexes he obtained from Mohinder, Peter is always the first one on the scene of an accident, and he saves many lives. Outside of work, however, Peter shuts himself out from his family and friends, and doesn't contact them. He also begins a mural of newspaper clippings of people he has saved.
In "Orientation", Noah visits Peter asking for help with a mysterious man who has superhuman speed and uses knives, who is searching for a key that Noah now has. Peter is intrigued by the speed power, and comes along. At a safe deposit box, they use the key and find an old compass. The knife man, Edgar, ambushes them. Peter manages to take Edgar's power and they fight in super speed. Edgar is surprised at how well Peter is fighting him, and retreats. Peter then leaves Noah, saying that he got what he came for (the power) but then later, he finds that Edgar returned and badly hurt Noah and took the compass. Peter rushes Noah to the hospital and later uses his speed to bring him chowder from Boston.
In "Ink", Peter prepares to go to work when he is delivered a notice that he is being sued by one of the people he saved. Peter goes to the hospital, where he asks for the man's information from Emma, and notices that he doesn't have her headphones plugged in to anything. Peter goes to meet the man, who is actually Samuel Sullivan. Peter is suspicious as he doesn't remember Samuel being at the accident in question, and thinks he just wants some of the Petrelli's money. Talking later with his partner Hesam, Peter finds out that some people believe that Peter himself has been causing the accidents, trying to get some glory for himself by saving people. Samuel later breaks into Peter's apartment and uses his ability over ink to insert a picture of himself into the newspaper clipping of the accident, which Peter sees. Peter goes to Samuel and apologizes for injuring him and not believing him about the crash. Samuel is pleased with Peter. He says that he will drop the suit, and shakes Peter's hand. Peter later observes Emma playing beautifully on a cello, and watches her as she runs away afterward. Later, Peter and his partner go to the site of a sinkhole that destroyed a house and killed three people. As Peter looks on, his arm starts to hurt, and he sees a new compass tattoo, spinning wildly.
Later, in "Acceptance", Peter goes to visit Noah and ask him about the compass tattoo, but finds that the tattoo has vanished. Peter leaves after sharing a brief reunion with Claire. At work, "Nathan" comes to visit Peter, and demonstrates his "new" abilities. Peter is surprised, but thinks Nathan is just taking after their late father, who also had multiple abilities.
In the graphic novel "Amanda's Journey, Part 1: When Everything Changed", Peter attends the call of a fire in New England, and there he meets Amanda while assisting her injured aunt Carol. Once in the hospital, Amanda runs into him again, but this time her ability makes all around her to burn. Peter uses his super speed to rush into safety and then approaches Amanda and makes her feel she is not a freak and she is not alone in this world. Ultimately, he convinces her to trust in her family, so she decides to find her mother, Lydia.
In "Hysterical Blindness", Peter tries to reconnect with his family, inviting his mother and Nathan to eat with him. Only his mother shows up, and throughout the entire visit she worries about "Nathan's" whereabouts. Peter, frustrated with her, leaves for work. On his way there, he saves Emma from being run over by a bus, and accidentally absorbs her ability to see sounds as color. At the hospital, Peter and Emma watch the color that emits from a children's choir, and both realize that they can see the same thing. Peter explains about himself and people with abilities to a stunned Emma, who initially thinks she has misread his lips. After playing a duet together on a piano, Peter asks Emma out for lunch the next day, saying it would be good for her to get out of the file room. Offended at this, Emma declines. Later that day, Peter is surprised when Hiro teleports into his apartment and collapses.
In "Tabula Rasa", Peter is already in the hospital keeping an eye on a passed out Hiro. When he wakes up, Peter tries to explain his condition but Hiro already knows it, a brain tumor is killing him, and tells Peter he is out to right the wrongs and help others, but Peter tells him he must be there so he can help Hiro instead, and then he mimics Hiro's ability. In his way out, Emma confronts him about her ability, which she wants to turn off; Peter finally tells her Hiro is the one that can help her understand powers, which she remains skeptical about, but Peter teleports out in that moment. He then appears at Noah's apartment and tells Claire and Noah about Hiro's brain tumor and the fact he needs Noah to find a healer for him. Claire offers her blood to heal him but Noah explains that it will accelerate its growth. Finally he and Noah teleport to Cainan, GA, to find a healer, Jeremy Greer, but they noticed several things dead around his house, and inside it are the corpses of his parents; Noah tells Peter that Jeremy would probably take life as well as he can give it. After avoiding Jeremy's shoots, Noah tells Peter to split while he talks to Jeremy. When Peter teleports in front of Jeremy, he shoots Peter and the time-freezing can't stop it at time. Noah then helps Jeremy face his fear to kill another person so he is able to heal Peter's wound. Once he mimicked Jeremy's ability, Peter goes to New York leaving Noah with the kid. Back in the hospital, he finds Emma who explains Hiro disappeared, and then finds the note "Save Charlie" which Hiro stated as part of his bucket list.
In "Shadowboxing", Peter is shown constantly using the healing ability mimicked from Jeremy to stabilize dying patients at accident sites and the ER. The abuse of this power starts to drain Peter's energy making him dizzy and weak. Emma notices this and ask him to stop; Peter asks her if she would use her medical skills to help the ER, making her reconsider her life as a doctor. Once back in his apartment, Nathan shows up asking for his help.
In "Brother's Keeper", the Haitian gives Peter the address of a storage facility, advising him to go there alone because the truth could be too much for him to bear. Despite this, Peter goes there with "Nathan", and they find Nathan's corpse. To find the truth, they visit the comatose Matt Parkman. Peter heals him so they can get some answers, but this revives Sylar, who jumps from Matt's consciousness into his own body. However, "Nathan" is still in control, and flies away with Peter to avoid the police.
In "Thanksgiving", Angela arrives Peter's apartment bringing Peter and Nathan the Thanksgiving dinner. After the servants are gone, both Peter and Nathan questions Angela about Nathan's death. Angela tries to deny it but the brothers get insistent so she threatens them to disappear from their lives if they continue asking; they stop and eat dinner. Later, Sylar gets the control of his body, subduing Peter and Angela at the chairs while he eats pie. Peter tries to stop him, but he can't reach Nathan inside Sylar's head. Once he starts scalping Angela, her pain makes Nathan fight back to take the control. After, Nathan takes control and flees, with Peter in pursuit.
In "The Fifth Stage", Angela tells Peter that for Nathan to be entirely gone, Sylar must be killed. However, Peter refuses to accept this, so he calls the Haitian, to obtain his power. In the building's elevator, a nurse turns out to be Sylar, making Peter run. Sylar follows him and gets trapped by Peter's newly obtained ability suppression. After fighting with their fists, Peter overcomes Sylar, and nails his hands and legs to the floor, asking him to bring Nathan back. Ultimately, Nathan retakes control and Peter lets him heal. Nathan still feels lost, so Peter takes him to the rooftop from which he once jumped, hoping it will help Nathan who is losing control to Sylar again. Unfortunately, Nathan jumps with the intent to kill himself. Peter manages to grab Nathan's hand, but in the end they both come to the conclusion that it is Nathan's time, so Peter lets him go and watches as a weeping Nathan falls. Midway through the fall, Nathan changes into Sylar, who hits a car at the street, then regenerates and leaves. Peter returns home and embraces Angela while grieving Nathan's death.
In "Upon This Rock", Peter calls Claire to inform her of Nathan's death. Later, at Nathan's funeral Peter eulogizes Nathan, telling everyone about how Nathan was like a father to him when his own father wasn't around.
In "Let It Bleed", Peter is at Nathan's wake and has a hard time dealing with everyone's sympathies and ducks into the kitchen with Claire in order to get away from it all. Claire cuts her hand and it bleeds as Peter is accidentally suppressing her powers. Claire has him keep doing that so she can feel pain for the first time in a long time. Later, after hearing about a hostage situation, Peter heads to the office building where its taking place followed by Claire and knocks out a cop with his power. He leaves Claire to tend to a wounded employee while he faces off with the shooting. Initially he appears to convince the man to give up, but the man shoots him in the shoulder before Peter overpowers him. Later on, in the ambulance, Peter convinces Claire to allow him to copy her regeneration power and he regenerates from his wound. He decides to keep Claire's power and use it to keep finding people to stop in order to keep his mind off of Nathan's death. Claire eventually convinces him of the futility of this and he has her call over West Rossen so he can copy his flight ability, presumably as a way of remembering Nathan. After copying flight again, Peter flies off.
In "Close to You, Peter is thought to be the perfect new leader of the Carnival by Lydia as Samuel himself said that Peter could be "the next Joseph." Lydia makes the compass tattoo reappear on Peter's arm and he wakes up. Later, Peter is drawn to Emma's apartment by her new-found ability to call people to her using her power and cello. There he is shocked to see the compass on the cello and compares it to the compass tattoo Lydia made reappear on his arm. The two go to Peter's apartment where Emma identifies the man Peter thought was named as William Hooper as Samuel Sullivan, using the newspaper clipping that Samuel had altered. Angela shows up and Peter introduces her to Emma. Angela is clearly shocked to see Emma, and after Emma leaves, Peter demands an explanation, asking his mother to tell him the truth for once. Angela reluctantly reveals that she had a prophetic dream that reveals that Emma will be responsible for the deaths of thousands of people and that Peter can't save her. Realizing she means someone else can and not getting any more answers out of his mother, Peter copies her ability in order to see for himself. Before leaving, Angela warns him that dreaming the future is a curse, not a gift. Later that night, Peter has a prophetic dream about Emma. In the dream, Emma is playing the cello crying while people scream in the background, presumably dying. As the dream ends, Sylar shows up and offers Emma his help, saying he's there to save her. As a result of the dream, Peter goes to Emma's apartment and destroys her cello, causing her to angrily order him out.
In "The Art of Deception, Peter has the dream about Emma and Sylar again, but this time it shows that Eric Doyle is controlling her actions. Peter is later invited over to his mother's apartment where she asks for his help with figuring out what to put on Nathan's tombstone. Peter, knowing from his prophetic dream that Sylar is the only hope to save Emma, asks Angela where Sylar is. Though reluctant, Angela tells him and Peter travels to LA to Matt Parkman's home where Sylar is located. Upon arriving, Peter copies Matt's power of telepathy and reads his mind, learning that Sylar is indeed at the house. After learning that Sylar was trapped in a nightmare by Matt and that Matt has trapped him behind a wall, Peter travels into the basement and uses his copied telepathy to enter Sylar's mind to try to free him despite Matt's warnings that he may become trapped too. In Sylar's mind, Peter finds himself on an empty city street and calls out for Sylar and Matt.
In "The Wall", Peter eventually attracts Sylar's attention and tells him he's only been trapped for three hours not three years as Sylar believes. Eventually the two discover a massive wall that is exactly the same as the one in Matt's basement that forms Sylar's prison. When Peter brings himself to a point that he can forgive Sylar for killing Nathan the wall starts to crumble as the two continue to beat on it. Peter wakes up and Sylar uses his telekinesis to free himself. Peter and Sylar head off to save Emma, but the two are blocked by Eli and surrounded by his clones.
In "Brave New World", Peter and Sylar quickly and easily defeat Eli and knock him out, saving Matt as he was about to be killed by his clones. Matt is furious Peter released Sylar from his nightmare and Peter tries to get Matt to read Eli's mind to learn Samuel's plans. As Matt is too mad to, Peter reads Eli's mind himself and learns that Samuel plans to kill thousands of people in Central Park that night and tries to leave with Sylar who is stopped by Matt. Peter tries to convince Matt that Sylar has changed and Sylar has Matt read his mind to try to tell, but Matt can't although he lets them go. Peter apparently copies Sylar's flight and the two apparently fly to the Carnival where Peter heads to stop Samuel while Sylar heads off to save Emma. Peter uses flight to tackle Samuel off-stage while he's trying to kill everyone, breaking Samuel's concentration and stopping him. Peter copies Samuel's terrakinesis and battles him, his copied powers boosted like Samuel's is by the presence of other specials. Peter and Samuel fight to a draw, but Peter holds him off long enough for Hiro to teleport everyone else away, which strips Samuel and Peter's extra power from the presence of the other specials and renders Samuel practically powerless. Samuel tries to physically attack Peter, but Peter blocks him and punches him in the face before watching Samuel race out into the empty Carnival and fall to his knees in despair.
Peter can be quite naive, for example, he always believes people readily. His mother, Angela, stated that he always put others before him and that he is a kind hearted soul. Peter has been described as a saint and gentle and sweet. He is easily a caring and loyal character, sticking to his elder brother even through their complex relationship. He is very empathetic towards others and very sensitive. Peter is a dreamer, which can often cause him to look different to the people from the outside.
He has shown and stated the he loves his big brother Nathan. He was always more submissive to Nathan. Peter worships Nathan and looks up to him almost as if he was his hero. Peter thinks fondly of his brother and at many times has been shown defending Nathan whenever someone spoke ill of him. Even when Nathan turned against him, Peter forgave him, showing his true love for his big brother. Although sometimes, it seems as though the feelings Peter has towards Nathan are one way, Nathan almost always does everything involving Peter, for his brother's good sake.
Advanced Human PowersEdit
Much mystery surrounded Peter's powers before and after the first few episodes. While every main character was said outright to have a power in press releases, Peter was simply billed as "trying to convince his brother he can fly". Eventually, Peter did indeed display the power to levitate, but only after his brother flew. The exact power he had and its nature were officially explained in an article from the October 9-14 TV Guide. Peter's original ability was empathic mimicry; Peter could absorb the ability of another advanced human once in close proximity. Peter's ability is stolen by his father Arthur during the third volume "Villains." Peter later injects himself with the formula which grants him an altered version of his original ability; he can once again absorb the abilities of others but only by physical contact. He is also limited to one ability; once he absorbs an ability the previous ability he held is lost.
In "Hiros," Peter successfully reproduces Isaac's precognition in order to finish a painting. While Peter's eyes undergo the same change as Isaac's, he doesn't use any heroin to activate the power. He believes his crude levitation sketch was also made by reproducing Isaac's power to draw the future.
In "Distractions", Peter is pushed off a 30-story building by Claude and lands on the roof of a taxi cab. He was impaled by a piece of the cab, but got up and regenerated, like Claire Bennet. It was revealed that Peter has to remember how he felt when he met the heroes to reproduce their powers.
